La fabrique de la nature (2013-2014)
Entering the Grangettes, a wildlife park in Switzerland, Matthew Gafsou thought he would discover a space abandoned to nature. To his surprise, he found himself in a land where human interventions were massive. To show this shaping of nature, he decided to reveal the traces of human intervention through ostensibly manufactured photographs.
His images are thus the antithesis of nature photography. Not seeking to celebrate the beauty of the reserve or to show its rich birdlife and vegetation, he prefers to present it as he sees it: a space governed by a delicate balance between human actions and inclinations of nature, between internal harmony and external pressures.
